The door on a 2001 Ford Focus would not open from the outside. In order to fix this problem a new handle bracket was required. Follow this guide for step by step instructions on how to replace the bracket. The 2011 Ford Focus has 7 problems reported for locks won't lock or unlock. 2012 Focus Door Panel

Pry Out Round Screw Cover

Screw Cover Removed
Thisautomotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assistowners of the third generation MK III (2011, 2012, 2013 & 2014) FordFocus sedan or hatchback in removing the interior door panels inorder to upgrade the OEM speaker, add soundproofing material,replace the power window motor or fix a faulty electrical switch.

Owners of other similar Ford vehicles built upon the 'Global C' (C1)compact car platform such as the C-Max, Escape, Kuga and TransitConnect may also find these DIY instructions to be useful.

The tools needed to complete thisprocedure include a small flathead screwdriver, a Torx T-25 star bitscrewdriver, and a standard sized flathead screwdriver or a plastic automotive trimpanel removal tool.

To remove the speaker, you'll needthe Torx T-25 screwdriver, a 5.5mm socket (or a 6mm still works) anda 1/4' drive ratchet.



Remove Door Handle Screw

Torx T-25 Star Bit Screw

Screw Cover - Outer Edge
The first step isto gently pry out the circular plastic screw cover located behind the dooropener handle with the small flathead screwdriver.

Remove the screw behind the door openerhandle by turning it counter clockwise with the Torx T25 star bitscrewdriver.

Set the cover and screw aside in a safeplace.


Pry Out Rubber Cover

Remove Torx T-25 Screw

Outer Edge Screw Removed
Then move to theouter edge of the door panel and pry out the vinyl rubber trim panel nearthe top with the small flathead screwdriver.

Remove the screw behind the cover with the TorxT25 screwdriver by turning it counter clockwise. Set the screw aside in asafe place.


Pry Off Switch Panel Trim

Plastic Hook At Rear

Pry Out Switch Panel At Rear
Then move to thefront edge of the plastic trim piece along the side of the arm rest.

Gently pry off the front part of the trimpiece with the small flathead screwdriver and gently pull it off the side ofthe arm rest.

Be careful when you pull off the rear edge ofthe trim panel since there is a plastic hook on that side.


Arm Rest Switch Panel

Power Window Switch Plug

Press Release Button
Next pry out therear edge of the plastic switch panel inside the arm rest.

There is a plastic retaining tab at the frontof the switch panel, so do not pry out the front edge to avoid breaking it.

Carefully lift the rear of the electricalswitch panel and remove it from the arm rest.

Press the release button on the electricalconnector and pull the plug straight out of the socket.


Switch Panel Disconnected

Arm Rest Screws Exposed

Remove Upper Torx T-25
Set the switchpanel aside in a safe place with the other trim pieces and screws.

Once the switch panel has been removed, you'llsee the last two screws that need to be removed.

Remove the two screws behind the arm rest byturning them counter clockwise with the Torx T-25 screwdriver.


Remove 2nd T25 Screw

Pry Off Tweeter Panel

Sail Panel Removed
Set the two screwsaside in a safe place.

Then move to thetop inner corner of the door panel and gently pry off the sail panel whichcontains the tweeter speaker with a flathead screwdriver or trim panel tool.The sail panel is held in place by a few friction fasteners.


Press Release Button

Tweeter Speaker Disconnected

Trim Panels & Screws
Press the releasetab on the power plug and pull the tweeter speaker's electrical connectorstraight out of the socket.

Set thetweeter speaker and sail panel assembly with the other parts.

You should have removed a total of 4 plastictrim pieces and 4 screws.



Pull Off Bottom Panel

Pull Out White Pop Rivets

Lift Panel Off Frame
Move to the bottomedge of the door panel and firmly pull it towards yourself to disengage thewhite plastic pop rivet friction fasteners.

You may need to insert a flathead screwdriveror trim panel tool to begin popping out the friction fasteners.

Continuepulling out the fasteners all along the bottom and sides of the panel.

Gently lift the plastic door panel up and offthe metal door frame.


Light Grey Power Plug

Press Release Button - Unplug

Door Opener Handle Cable
Angle the top ofthe door panel towards yourself while supporting the bottom with yourthighs.

Press the release tab on thelight grey electrical connector and pull it straight out of the socket.


Pull Back Plastic Clip

Lift Mechanism From Bracket

Door Panel Removed
Disconnect the dooropener handle cable mechanism by gently pulling back the small black plastichandle.

Lift the plastic rectangularbox piece end of the door opener cable out of the bracket.

Now you can separate the door panel from theframe and set it aside in a safe place.


Metal Door Frame

OEM Door Speaker

Remove Torx T-25 Screw
To remove the doorspeaker, first take out the Torx T-25 screw on one side by turning itcounter clockwise.

Then remove the hexhead screw on the other side with the 5.5mm socket and ratcheting wrench. Ifyou don't have a 5.5mm socket, you may also be able to use a slightly larger6mm socket or needle nose pliers.


Remove 5.5mm Screw

Disconnect Speaker Plug

Remove OEM Speaker
Press the releasebutton on the power connector and pull the plug straight out of the top ofthe speaker.

Pull the old speaker outof the door frame.

The front door speakers can be replaced with6 1/2' (6.5'), 6 3/4' (6.75') and 5 1/4' (5.25') sized aftermarket units.

I'd recommend buying new aftermarket speakers fromCrutchfield since they usually include any necessary electrical connectoradapters and mounting brackets.

Please verify your OEM speaker sizes andcompatible replacements before ordering anything.

To help reduce road noise make your new speakerssound better, apply some Dynamat SoundDeadener to the metal door frame. It will stop rattles andvibrations when you crank up the volume.


Hold Panel Near Frame

Insert Cable In To Bracket

Snap In To Place
To replace the doorpanel, first hold it near the frame and support the bottom with your thighs.

Then gently insert the plastic piece at the endof the door opener cable back in to the bracket on the door panel.

Push the piece in to the bracket until itclicks securely in to place.


Plug In Electrical Connector

Pull Switch Panel Plug Out

Hang Panel On Door Frame
Push the light greypower plug back in to the socket mounted near the top of the door frame.

Pull the electrical connector for the switchpanel out through the hole in the arm rest.

Hang the top edge of the door panel on to themetal lip on the door frame.


Line Up White Pop Rivets

Push Friction Fasteners In

Replace 2 Arm Rest Screws
Line up the whiteplastic pop rivet friction fasteners on the rear of the door panel withtheir corresponding holes in the metal door frame.

Firmly tap the bottom and sides of the doorpanel to push in the friction fasteners.

Tighten the two screws behind the arm rest byturning them clockwise with the Torx T25 screwdriver.


Push In Switch Panel Plug

First Insert Tab At Front

Gently Lower Switch Panel
Push the electricalconnector straight in to the socket at the bottom of the switch panel.

Insert the plastic tab at the front of theswitch panel in to the arm rest first and then gently push down the rearpart.


Push In Switch Panel

Line Up Switch Panel Trim

First Insert Hook At Rear
Make sure that theswitch panel is fully seated down in to the arm rest.

Line up the trim piece that goes along the outeredge of the arm rest.

First insert the plastic hook at the rear ofthe trim piece and then snap in the friction fasteners at the middle andfront.


Gently Snap In Trim Piece

Tighten Door Handle Screw

Push In Screw Cover
Insert the screwbehind the door opener handle and tighten it by turning it clockwise withthe Torx T25 screwdriver.

Push thesmall round black plastic screw cover in place.


Tighten Outer Edge Screw

Push In Rubber Screw Cover

Plug In Tweeter Speaker
Move to the outsideedge of the door panel and insert the smaller black Torx T25 screw.

Push the vinyl rubber screw cover back in toplace.


Line Up Tweeter Panel

Push Sail Panel In Place

Door Panel Re-Installed
Push the power plugback in to the socket on the tweeter speaker.

Line up the friction fasteners on the rear ofthe sail panel and push it back in to place.

Sit inside the vehicle, close the door, andverify that the door opener handle and electrical switches work properly.
